What's left behind the scenes

  • The Firefly family home for this film was recreated at Stable Ranch in Santa Clarita, California. The same building appears in many films from the 1990s.
  • To reprise the role of Mama Firefly, actress Karen Black demanded a high fee, so director Rob Zombie preferred to cast Leslie Easterbrook in the role.
  • The film uses approximately 100 digital special effects, primarily for depicting blood and creating on-screen objects that come into contact with the human body (such as throat slitting, shots to the head or neck, and knife attacks). In cases where direct contact with the body is not required (for example, in scenes where a bullet hits a person through clothing), standard filming tricks for such situations were used.
  • The letters on the license plate of the blue van are AKU, which translates to "evil" from Japanese.
  • Shortly before filming began, Matthew McGrory injured his leg. A stunt double of suitable height had to be urgently found for the scene at the beginning of the film where Kroha drags a corpse through the forest. The stunt double performed the scene up to the point where Kroha removes the bag from the head.
  • The Firefly family's house was also used in the pilot episode of the "Supernatural" project, which aired in 2005.
  • Playing the scene with the sheriff, in which her character cries, proved incredibly difficult for actress Sheri Moon Zombie. The filming took about three hours, but the actress was so emotionally exhausted that she took a two-day leave afterward.
  • The Firefly family's house was recreated at Sable Ranch in Santa Clarita, California. The same building appears in many films from the 1990s.
  • The film used approximately 100 digital special effects, primarily for depicting blood and creating on-screen objects that come into contact with the human body (such as throat slitting, shots to the head or neck, and knife wounds). In cases where direct contact with the body was not required (for example, in scenes where a bullet hits a person through clothing), practical effects were used.
  • Shortly before filming began, Matthew McGorry injured his leg. A stunt double of matching height had to be urgently found for the scene at the beginning of the film where Kroha drags a corpse through the forest. The stunt double performed the scene up until the moment Kroha removes the bag from the head.
