The film is based on Robert Penn Warren's novel "All the King's Men" (1946).
Robert Penn Warren, the author of "All the King's Men," was awarded the Pulitzer Prize.
The film's director, Steven Zaillian, had not seen the first adaptation, deciding to adapt the screenplay himself.
Filming took place in New Orleans and Morgan City, Louisiana (USA).
Meryl Streep declined the role of Sadie Burke, which was played by Patricia Clarkson in the film, due to the lengthy filming schedule.
The book was first adapted for the screen in 1949 (that film received 3 Oscars, including Best Picture).
Warren's plot has a real basis – the biography of Huey Long, who in the early 30s of the last century was the governor of Louisiana and then a senator.
