Short description
A police detective's violent nature keeps him from being a good cop.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on William L. Stewart's novel "Scream in the Night".
  • The character played by Gary Merrill (1915-1990) was supposed to be a drug addict in the plot, but the Hays Code (the ethical code for film production in Hollywood, adopted in 1930 and repealed in 1967) prohibited any mention of drugs on screen.
  • Tommy, played by Gary Merrill (1915-1990), frequently uses a nasal inhaler in scenes, although he does not outwardly show any signs of nasal congestion. Benzedrine (amphetamine) was developed in 1928, and by 1934 it could be purchased over the counter. A prescription became required only in 1959 and thereafter.
