What's left behind the scenes

  • The film was improvised from beginning to end. It had no script. The actors and crew had only a vague idea of the plot and the order in which events were supposed to unfold.
  • Olivia Wilde confirmed in several interviews that during filming, the actors drank real beer and strong alcoholic beverages because it turned out to be cheaper than using prop alcohol, where water is poured into liquor bottles.
  • In the scene where they play a game during a drinking bout, Anna Kendrick was genuinely drunk. This scene was filmed last that shooting day, so Kendrick and Jake Johnson decided not to hold back.
  • Since the film had no script, the actors often came to the set with no idea what they would be filming that day. Ron Livingston arrived in Chicago the day before his first appearance on set, but he received a call telling him that filming was ahead of schedule and that he was supposed to film right now – the scene of the 'breakup' with his girlfriend. Livingston only knew that his character had some kind of relationship with Olivia Wilde's character, and also with Anna Kendrick's character, so, rushing to the set, he first asked the director with whom exactly he was breaking up and why.
