Short description
Las Vegas showroom magician Cris Johnson has a secret which torments him: he can see a few minutes into the future. Sick of the examinations he underwent as a child and the interest of the government and medical establishment in his power, he lies low under an assumed name in Vegas, performing cheap tricks and living off small-time gambling "winnings." But when a terrorist group threatens to detonate a nuclear device in Los Angeles, government agent Callie Ferris must use all her wiles to capture Cris and convince him to help her stop the cataclysm.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on Philip K. Dick's short story "The Golden Man" (1954).
  • The various possible scenarios resemble a simulation of a computer game, where it's possible to replay the same episode in a new way. A similar idea was used in the film "Run Lola Run".
  • Due to unsuitable terrain, the scene with the falling car had to be filmed in two different locations. The car began to roll down near the "Obryv" restaurant. All other shots of the fall were filmed in the area of the "Big Bear Lake" campsite, which is located 40 miles from the restaurant.
  • The end credits also demonstrate the protagonist's ability to foresee the future, so they scroll from top to bottom, making it unusual to read text that runs from bottom to top.
  • The cafe where Chris met Liz was used for filming the opening and closing scenes of "Pulp Fiction".
  • The moment at the end of the film when Chris dodges bullets from a terrorist who has captured his girlfriend is reminiscent of a scene from "The Matrix" featuring Neo. Several episodes of the film were shot in the San Bernardino Mountains in California. The "Cliff" hotel where Chris and his girlfriend stayed is actually a restaurant, so the facade was made to look like a building. The interior of the room, however, was filmed elsewhere. After filming, the facade was demolished.
