What's left behind the scenes

  • Filming was done simultaneously on 35mm film and in high-definition video.
  • Executive producer and casting director Drew Keffrey passed away in 1999, three years before filming began.
  • Some scenes are out of focus because no one thought to set the camera lens to the correct mode.
  • Filming took over six months. During this time, two cinematographers with their assistants and three actors left the project. As for the latter, they were replaced with other actors or their characters were completely removed from the script.
  • The role of the youngest character, Denny, went to Philip Haldiman, one of the oldest actors involved in the film.
  • During filming, the crew openly laughed at the chaos that reigned on set. From time to time, the operator would be overcome with such laughter that the camera would start to "jump".
  • Almost all members of the film crew and actors were confident that the result of their work would be shelved and never seen by anyone.
  • 400 people participated in the making of the film.
  • In the alley scene with the 'windows,' paper shades gently flutter in the breeze on the wall behind the characters.
  • Greg Sestero, who played Mark, wrote the book "The Disaster Artist" about his friendship with Tommy Wiseau and working on the film. The book was published in 2013, on the tenth anniversary of the release of the romantic drama "The Room." Critics received it favorably.
  • Between takes, Tommy Wiseau incredibly irritated Dan Janjigian, so the latter didn't even have to feign anger in front of the camera. It was genuine.
  • Dan Janjigian never broke character while on set, so the other actors genuinely feared him.
  • A huge billboard with the poster for "The Room" stood in Hollywood for five years. Wiseau paid around $300,000 for it.
  • Access to the set where "nudes" are filmed is usually closed or strictly limited. During the filming of a love scene involving Lisa and Johnny, access to the set was open. This was insisted upon by the director, producer, screenwriter, and actor Tommy Vaiso.
  • During the filming of party arguments and the episode where they "trash the apartment," Tommy Vaiso was taking cold medicine. His less-than-healthy condition and lack of sleep led to him looking convincingly drunk or high, in any case, struggling to think straight. In reality, this was the result of monstrous fatigue.
