For the filming of the movie, a 117-meter long tunnel was constructed to full scale, and real subway cars were used.
In October 2011, filming took place in Samara. For almost two weeks, the Samara Metro played the role of the Moscow Metro. Filming was conducted at the Alabinskaya station under construction, the existing Moskovskaya station, and at the depot. The Samara Metro even provided the film crew with a special train specifically for filming the movie.
A mixed-breed dog named Pyotr, half Yorkshire Terrier and half Miniature Pinscher, played the role of Tyavka.
The film is based on the novel of the same name by Dmitry Safonov.
In the scene where Khodchenkova’s character learns from the news that her family is in the subway, it is clearly visible during the phone call that her iPhone is locked.
