- The film was shot in Natchitoches, Louisiana. The film 'Steel Magnolias' (Herbert Ross, 1989) was also filmed there.

- When Dani, played by Reese Witherspoon, is sitting on the bed, a photograph of Elvis can be seen on the wall behind her, a photograph that did not exist in 1957 (the time period of the plot). This picture was taken sometime in the late 1960s.
