Short description
After a band of drunken thugs overruns a small Indian Nation town, killing Minister Goodnight and raping the women folk, Eula Goodnight enlists the aid of Marshal Cogburn to hunt them down and bring her father's killers to justice.
What's left behind the scenes
- Initially, John Wayne wanted Ingrid Bergman to be his co-star. He then stated that the heroine should be younger and suggested Mary Tyler Moore for the role, deciding that audiences would likely not appreciate a film with two older characters in the lead roles.
- Initially, plans were made to create a third film about Rooster Cogburn, titled "Once Upon a Time." These plans were abandoned because the film did not fully meet expectations, and Paramount Pictures also cited John Wayne's age and a general decline in public interest in the Western genre as reasons for the cancellation.
- While teaching his eight-year-old daughter to play golf during the filming of this movie, John Wayne suffered an injury, but fortunately, it was concealed with an eye patch. Wayne had been living with only one lung for ten years prior to filming, so breathing at that altitude was difficult for him, and he often required an oxygen mask.
