What's left behind the scenes

  • Eva Green could have played the main female role.
  • In scenes depicting male and female genitalia, Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg were replaced with actual pornographic actors.
  • Filming of 'Antichrist' was scheduled for 2005, but the film's producer, Peter Aalbæk Jensen, shut down the project. In 2007, Lars von Trier fell into depression and stated that he might never make another film.
  • Before filming began, Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg watched Tarkovsky's 'Mirror'. Dafoe also watched von Trier's 'The Idiots', and Gainsbourg watched 'The Night Porter', carefully studying the character of Charlotte Rampling.
  • Music by Georg Friedrich Handel plays at the beginning and end of the film.
  • Lars von Trier dedicated 'Antichrist' to his favorite director, Andrei Tarkovsky.
  • 'Antichrist' is the first film in the 'depression trilogy,' which also includes 'Melancholia' (2011), 'Nymphomaniac: Part I,' and 'Nymphomaniac: Part II' (2013).
