Short description
After Silvia Broome, an interpreter at United Nations headquarters, overhears plans of an assassination, an American Secret Service agent is sent to investigate.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The first film in the world to be shot inside the UN building.
  • Sidney Pollack lost a lot of effort to obtain permission to film at the UN. Eventually, reaching Kofi Annan, the director finally got his way. Filming took place on weekends so as not to interfere with the organization's workflow.
  • Members of the film crew were allowed to bring knives into the UN building, which were necessary for their work.
  • The film features a fictional African state called Matobo.
  • Pollack wanted to cast Naomi Watts in the lead role, but she gave the role to her friend Nicole Kidman, who was eager to appear in the film. She signed the contract without even reading the script.
  • Filming was initially scheduled to take place in Toronto. An exact replica of the UN General Assembly proved too expensive, so efforts were made to resolve the issue by filming on location on weekends.
  • Nicole Kidman had to interrupt filming to reshoot certain scenes for 'The Stepford Wives' (2004), which received negative feedback after the first test screening.
  • The majority of the extras were real UN employees who were allowed to participate in the filming after signing certain documents.
  • Jackie Chan was offered one of the roles in this film. After reviewing the script, Jackie told his manager: "There's too much dialogue here."
