For a class project, three college students decide to invent an unfounded rumor about the most popular girl on campus. But as the rumor spreads, it begins to spiral out of control.
What's left behind the scenes
- James Marsden performed one of the songs for the film.
- The university attended by the students was also used for several other films, including "Urban Legends" (1998) and "The Skulls" (2000). Coincidentally, Joshua Jackson starred in all three films.
- To James Marsden’s great disappointment, one of his favorite scenes was cut from the film during editing, in which Derek, close to tears, calls his parents. Director Davis Guggenheim, however, decided that the audience would begin to sympathize with Derek too much. One way or another, this scene can be seen on some DVD releases of the film.
