What's left behind the scenes

  • The role of the vampire Belle was played by the famous choreographer Russell Clark. His duties included not only performing the dance with Julie Carmen (which was preceded by exhausting 8-hour rehearsals), but also directing the other actors playing vampires.
  • For the scene of his own death, Brian Thompson wore a bag of worms on his stomach, and to prevent them from crawling out, he was forced to remain in a semi-bent position.
  • The character Boz was based on Brian Bosworth, a former professional American football player. Brian Thompson was cast in the role due to his physical resemblance to the athlete.
  • Josh Richman auditioned for the role of the werewolf Louis, but ended up playing Fritz.
  • In 1988, the film was adapted into a graphic novel. It was not part of the 'Night of Terror' series being published at the time.
  • After getting the role of Richie, Merritt Butrick (1959-1989) discovered he had AIDS, which at the time was equivalent to a death sentence. Butrick did not hide this from his colleagues on set. Very little was known about the transmission of the disease at that time, but some precautions were taken (everyone made sure the vampires' fangs didn't puncture the actors' skin).
  • The beam of the flashlight Peter shone into the elevator shaft was animated.
  • Shortly after filming wrapped, the lead actor, Roddy McDowall, and director Tommy Lee Wallace were scheduled to meet with Jose Menendez, the chairman of Live Entertainment, to discuss a potential threequel, but that very evening, after the negotiations, Menendez and his wife were murdered by their own sons. This tragedy not only put an end to any continuation but also severely limited the film's distribution, which was quickly rushed to video stores. Due to the cancellation of all advertising, many viewers only learned of its existence after the cassette release.
