The film's plot is partially based on a true story from the life of Susan Burton, editor of the weekly American radio program This American Life, which she told on the air during one of the broadcasts.
Kevin McDonald, Bruce McCulloch, and Mark McKinney, who played the airport security guards, were previously members of the Canadian comedy sketch troupe and participated in its television show "The Kids in the Hall" (1988-1994).
Filming took place at Salt Lake City International Airport, in Salt Lake City itself, and its surrounding areas in the spring of 2006.
Kevin McDonald, Bruce McCulloch, and Mark McKinney, who played the security guards at the airport, had previously been members together of the Canadian comedy sketch troupe and participated in its television show “The Kids in the Hall” (1988-1994).
