Short description
The surviving Resistance faces the First Order once again as the journey of Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron continues. With the power and knowledge of generations behind them, the final battle begins.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The first film in the series shot on 65mm film.
  • Initially, Colin Trevorrow was supposed to direct the film, but due to creative differences with the studio, he left the director's position, remaining as a screenwriter, and was replaced by J.J. Abrams, who had previously worked with LucasFilm on the seventh episode of the saga – 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'.
  • The working title for Episode IX was Black Diamond.
  • The film uses footage of Carrie Fisher shot for 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'.
  • On November 25, 2019, news appeared that the film's script had surfaced online. An actor (later revealed to be John Boyega) allegedly forgot the script under a bed when moving to another room. During cleaning, the script was discovered and an attempt was made to sell it on eBay. Director J.J. Abrams confirmed that 'Disney' and Lucasfilm bought it back.
  • Along with a cameo role as a hologram in the film "Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back," Palpatine is the most famous villain in the Star Wars universe, appearing on screen six times.
  • Anthony Daniels, who played C-3PO, is the only actor to have appeared in all 9 official Star Wars franchise films (not to mention numerous spin-offs). He began with an appearance in the very first film, "Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope" (George Lucas, 1977).
  • Dominic Monaghan, who played Kin, joined the cast of the film after winning a bet against his friend and director J.J. Abrams. Abrams, who was one of the scriptwriters, wrote the role specifically for Monaghan.
  • J.J. Abrams named the planet Kijimi after a Japanese synthesizer.
  • Initially, George Lucas planned to film 12 episodes, but then reduced the number to 9 and stated that the only characters who would appear in all 9 episodes would be the droids. This turned out to be true. Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, the only ones who played in all the films of the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy, were absent in the sequel trilogy. Only Anthony Daniels, who played C-3PO, appeared in all nine episodes.
  • 30 tons of black beans were brought into the Jordanian desert to film the corresponding scenes with quicksand.
  • The Babu Frik doll was only about 23 cm tall, but was so packed with electronics that it took 7 people to operate it.
  • Adam Driver (who played Kylo Ren) performed all the stunts himself.
  • The snake was 25 meters long, making it the largest animal created for the film. A puppeteer inside the snake operated it.
  • According to sound recordist Matthew Wood, some changes were made to the script so late that he had to write additional lines for his character for Adam Driver. For this, the actor climbed into his closet at home to block out all extraneous sounds.
  • Originally, Colin Trevorrow was supposed to direct the film, but due to creative differences with the studio, he left the director's post, remaining as a screenwriter, and was replaced by J.J. Abrams, who had previously worked with LucasFilm on the seventh episode of the saga – "Star Wars: The Force Awakens".
