What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on the book "Beware of the Night" by New York police officer Ralph Sarchi, which was written based on his personal experience.
  • Joel McHale attended knife handling and martial arts training for several months to perform knife tricks himself during filming. He sustained virtually no injuries during training or filming. Only on the last day of filming, when McHale's son came to the set, did the actor decide to cut a piece of white chocolate for him with his knife and cut himself.
  • The lead role was offered to Mark Wahlberg, but he declined. Eric Bana eventually got the role.
  • The role of Butler was originally written for Joel McHale. However, according to director Scott Derrickson, Butler was the worst character in the script. But then he considered – what McHale would be like if he had gone into the army instead of college, and worked in law enforcement rather than entertainment. After that, it became easier to write the role, and the character was significantly reworked.
  • At the 59th minute, in the bar, the song "Riders on the storm" by The Doors plays.
  • The film features a large amount of music by The Doors, as well as various references to it. For example, during the final exorcism, Santino says: "Is everybody in? Is everybody in? The ceremony is about to begin." This is a reference to the song "Celebration Of The Lizard."
  • At the beginning of the film, Jimmy leaves a deep cut on Sarchie's hand during their confrontation. And his partner says that stitches will be needed. Later, in the scene at the Bronx Zoo, the wound is not visible. And immediately after that, when Sarchie is at home, his hand is already bandaged.
  • When the priest tells Ralph about his affair and his girlfriend's subsequent abortion, he says he should be defrocked. He then says that his confessor also warned him that if he behaved that way again, he would be defrocked. "Defrocked" is a Protestant term, and Catholic priests do not use it.
