• J.J. Abrams declined an offer to direct the third film in the *Star Trek* franchise due to his work on *Star Wars: The Force Awakens* (2015). He became one of the producers of *Star Trek Beyond* (2016), and the directing offer was made to Roberto Orci – one of the scriptwriters for the first two films of the rebooted franchise.
