Short description
The evil Darth Sidious enacts his final plan for unlimited power -- and the heroic Jedi Anakin Skywalker must choose a side.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Unlike previous episodes, 'Revenge of the Sith' was filmed almost entirely on studio sets. The only location shoot had been filmed during the work on the second episode. George Lucas, keeping in mind sketches of what would happen in the third episode, filmed this scene in the Tunisian desert 3 years prior. In this scene, Obi-Wan Kenobi delivers young Luke Skywalker to his aunt and uncle.
  • The Lucas team couldn’t completely abandon location shooting. During editing, the film crew traveled to Thailand, Switzerland, and China. The actors did not have to participate in these shoots, as only natural landscapes were filmed.
  • Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker are the only actors who participated in the filming of all six episodes. Frank Oz, who voices Yoda, rounds out the top three – he participated in the work on five episodes. As for the characters, Obi-Wan Kenobi undoubtedly holds the lead, appearing in all six episodes. He was played by two different actors (Ewan McGregor in the second trilogy).
  • Actors Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen spent about two months preparing for the battle scenes. The main focus was on the art of fencing.
  • The resourceful George Lucas is accustomed to turning everything he touches into gold. A paid service was organized on the official Lucasfilm website, allowing viewers to follow the filming process of some scenes via webcams installed in the studio pavilions.
  • Keisha Castle-Hughes participated in filming for only one day. During that day, the actress managed to film all of her scenes.
  • Gary Oldman agreed to voice General Grievous, but ultimately was unable to work under Lucas' direction. As Gary is a member of the Actors' Guild, he is not allowed to work with actors who are not members of the Guild.
  • The role of Captain Antilles was originally intended for Denis Lawson, who played Wedge Antilles in the first trilogy.
  • During filming, a green screen was displayed on the gleaming body of the C-3PO robot, against which much of the work was done. Later, using computers, the editing specialists had to correct these flaws frame by frame.
  • Specifically for his role in the third film of the trilogy, actor Hayden Christensen gained about 11 kg. He had to eat around 6 times a day.
  • The final battle involving Mace Windu takes place in three huge rooms and consists of exactly 102 movements.
  • A scene where a group of senators (including Padmé) plans to organize an Alliance to prevent the Chancellor from gaining even more power was removed; it featured a young Mon Mothma.
  • Nick Gillard, the stunt coordinator, played the Jedi Kin Dralig. Jeremy Bullock (Boba Fett in the original trilogy) played the role of Captain Colton.
  • During the transport landing scene near the Senate building, the Millennium Falcon (or a ship of similar design) can be seen in the bottom right corner of the screen. In the Expanded Universe of Star Wars, which goes beyond the films, it is confirmed that this is indeed the Millennium Falcon, but under a different name at the time, long before Han Solo became its owner.
  • Samuel L. Jackson (Mace Windu) knew that his character was destined to die even when signing the contract. Jackson only asked for one favor: "I want my character to die as a true hero, not some pathetic punk." George Lucas took these wishes into account, and Mace's death became a truly memorable event in the film.
  • Hayden Christensen actually wears the Darth Vader suit, and not some abstract stunt double. At Christensen's request, the Darth Vader suit was re-made to take into account the actor's body features. Considering the significant height difference between him and David Prowse (the performer of Vader in the first trilogy) – about 12 cm – the camera was positioned specifically to make Darth Vader as portrayed by Hayden appear taller. The same technique was used during the filming of Episodes 5 and 6, when David Prowse was sometimes replaced by stuntman Bob Anderson, who was also significantly shorter during battle scenes.
  • George Lucas appears during the opera on Coruscant as the blue-faced Baron Papanoida. This is Lucas' first appearance in the saga. His three children also played cameo roles: his son, Jett, became Zett Jukassa, a dying Jedi who defends the Jedi Temple from clones; his daughter, Amanda, plays the character of Terr Taneel, who can be seen on a security system hologram; and his daughter Katie, the blue-skinned Chi Ikwé, who can be seen when Palpatine, rescued by the Jedi, arrives at the Senate.
  • Gary Oldman agreed to voice General Grievous, but was unable to work under Lucas' direction. As Gary is a member of the Screen Actors Guild, he is not allowed to work with actors who are not members of the Guild.
  • In the episode of the transport landing near the Senate building, the ship "Millennium Falcon" (or a ship of a similar model) can be seen in the lower right corner of the screen. In the Expanded Universe of "Star Wars", which goes beyond the films, it is confirmed that this is indeed the "Millennium Falcon", but under a different name, long before Han Solo became its owner.
