Charlize Theron turned down the role of Evelyn in "Pearl Harbor" (2001) to appear in this film.
Preparing for the role of Chez with cross-dressing, Jason Isaacs specifically visited relevant clubs (with performances by men dressed as women) and observed their regulars. He wanted to take Keanu Reeves with him, but realized that the star of the recently released "The Matrix" (The Wachowskis, 1999) would find it difficult to remain unnoticed there.
Filming took place from April 6 to July 13, 2000.
