The entire film was shot at one of the studios in Los Angeles.
The film was released in the US only on video.
According to David Trippet (who was the executive producer of the first three films in the franchise), this film was originally intended as a parody of Ron Howard's science fiction film 'Apollo 13' (1995). Someone from the management of 'Trimark Pictures' saw a poster for Howard's film and ordered that Tom Hanks' face, from that film, be replaced with the Leprechaun's face. After that, work began on the script.
Brent Jessmer bears a resemblance to Sylvester Stallone, and director Brian Trenchard-Smith initially wanted him to portray Stallone throughout the entire film. This idea was later abandoned.
