Dutch director Anton Corbijn was offered to head the project, but he had to decline due to scheduling conflicts with his film "A Most Wanted Man" (2014).
At the very beginning of the film, a guy falls off a skateboard. Interestingly, James Hetfield himself has broken his arm several times due to this mode of transportation, so his concert contract now includes a clause "NO SKATEBOARDING".
The film's screenplay is 15 pages long and contains very little dialogue.
Some of the compositions performed at the concert were not included in the film. The compositions not included are: “Sad But True,” “Welcome Home (Sanitarium),” “Fade to Black,” and “Seek and Destroy.”
The concert footage featured in the film was shot on August 24, 2012, at “Rogers Arena” in Vancouver (Canada).
The film's title is the name of the seventh track from Metallica's album – Metallica (Black Album) from 1991. Nevertheless, it is not performed in the film.
