- Columbia Pictures insisted that Otto Preminger cast Jane Fonda in the lead role, and she was also eager to play it, however Preminger stated that he would only film with Carol Lynley.
- After seeing Keir Dullea in this film, Stanley Kubrick (1928-1999) invited him to star in the science fiction film “2001: A Space Odyssey” (1968) as Dave Bowman, a role that would become the most famous in the actor’s repertoire. Dullea didn’t even have to audition. Kubrick simply asked if he would like to play a certain character in a certain film, to which Dullea agreed.
- During the period when this film was being made, the influence of the so-called Hays Code (the ethical code of film production in Hollywood) was already waning, and it was not adhered to as strictly. The Hays Code excluded any references to or mentions of abortion (except in the most general terms), and especially any mention of abortion in a positive or even neutral light. The heroine played by Carol Lynley (1942-2019) frankly says in one of the conversations that she considered having an abortion, but ultimately decided to have the child. Moreover, this heroine even uses the word 'abortion,' which was also prohibited by the Hays Code. In a 2015 New York Times article, film critic J. Hoberman suggested that “Bunny Lake Is Missing” was probably the very first film to openly use the word 'abortion'.
