What's left behind the scenes
- In his afterword to the book published in 2007, author Larry Doyle wrote that he initially wanted to create a film with a similar plot. When this idea did not generate much enthusiasm, he published it as a novel, which quickly attracted producers. They offered the author himself to adapt the work for the big screen, and thus his original idea became a reality.
- The school in the film, Buffalo Glenn High School, is based on the real Buffalo Grove High School from the hometown of the book and screenplay author Larry Doyle.
- Filming took place in the spring of 2008 in several schools in and around Vancouver, Canada.
