Short description
On a rainy London night in 1946, novelist Maurice Bendrix has a chance meeting with Henry Miles, husband of his ex-mistress Sarah, who abruptly ended their affair two years before. Bendrix's obsession with Sarah is rekindled; he succumbs to his own jealousy and arranges to have her followed.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Miranda Richardson and then Kristin Scott Thomas were considered for the role of Sarah at various times, but Julianne Moore personally asked director Neil Jordan to cast her in the part. She was ultimately confirmed for the role.
  • In the UK, the film received a rating equivalent to the American MPAA's R rating (under 17s admitted only with a parent or legal guardian) – all due to scenes in which Ralph Fiennes' character displays his buttocks.
