Short description
A modern-day witch likes her neighbor but despises his fiancée, so she enchants him to love her instead... only to fall in love with him for real.

What's left behind the scenes

  • This was the last film in which James Stewart (1908-1997) played a man in love with a young woman. Stewart was 50 at the time of filming, while his partner, Kim Novak, was 25. The age difference did not bother the actor at all, but Novak objected. Subsequently, Stewart played either lonely men or already married ones.
  • Several specially trained animals and one untrained but very friendly and photogenic cat named Houdini played the Siamese cat in the film. Unfortunately, Houdini was required to do more than just cuddle in the actors' arms, so he had to be frightened for certain scenes. Houdini experienced such stress during filming that, according to rumors, he never fully recovered.
