What's left behind the scenes

  • The film was shot in Phoenix (Arizona, USA) and Toronto (Ontario, Canada).
  • The actual filming of the movie was completed in almost a month – from September 18 to October 2000.
  • The building number where Neil was supposed to meet Ray is 555. This number is often used in films for fictional objects, phone numbers, and so on.
  • The filmmakers wanted to show that when creating the image of O.J. Grant, the authors drew inspiration from the mythology of different countries. Grant is presented as an Irish leprechaun, therefore he is red-haired. The pipe in the shape of a monkey's head comes from Eastern mythology, and the pipe itself can be linked to djinns.
  • A professional magician-double performed the card tricks for Christopher Lloyd.
  • The clock behind Christopher Lloyd shows 10:04 – that's the time the clock on the tower stopped due to a lightning strike in the 'Back to the Future' trilogy.
  • Filming began on September 18, 2000. In the opening scene, Neil Oliver says, "As for me, it all started on September 18, on my birthday." James Marsden, who played him, was actually born on September 18.
  • The floor Neil ascends to in the 555 building is 13. The number 13 also appears in the scene with the girl on the road – Neil’s room number would be 2461 (2+4+6+1=13).
  • When Neil first sees his gift – a new red BMW 328i – the music playing in this scene is very similar to the music used in the film “Back to the Future” (1985) when Marty opens the garage door and sees a new car there.
  • The courthouse building in the town of Morlaw displays a coat of arms with a distorted American motto: “In law we trust.” The town’s name can be read as “more law.”
  • Neil wakes up in the hospital on September 18th at 7:25 PM on a Tuesday (visible on the hospital clock), which is the day filming began.
  • The film Sally (Melissa Ed) is watching after the restaurant is “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” (1977).
  • The initials of one of the main characters in the film – O. J. Grant – stand for “One Wish Grant.”
  • At the beginning of the film, a comic book about X-MEN is on James Marsden’s desk; later, James Marsden played the mutant Cyclops in several installments of “X-Men.”
