Short description
Villainous Gru lives up to his reputation as a despicable, deplorable and downright unlikable guy when he hatches a plan to steal the moon from the sky. But he has a tough time staying on task after three orphans land in his care.

What's left behind the scenes

  • At the end of the film, when Gru throws a disco, the minion's DJ booth displays the marking “Gru-ray disc” with an inverted “b,” a parody of Blu-Ray discs.
  • The film also features an allusion to “The Godfather” – when Gru wakes up in bed and finds a doll's head there (in “The Godfather,” the character finds a severed horse's head).
  • The pink ticket to the girls' performance features the number 072069 – representing July 20, 1969 – the date of the moon landing.
  • Margot's t-shirt, which she wears under her jacket, depicts the Lorax from Dr. Seuss’s book.
  • During the final dance, Gru copies John Travolta’s moves from “Saturday Night Fever.”
  • The reference to the so-called "Evil Bank" points to the actual bank "Lehman Brothers," whose bankruptcy triggered the 2008 economic crisis.
  • When Vector kidnaps the girls, he leaves a message for Gru – a piece of paper with children's scribbles, featuring a 'V' in a circle, which is a reference to the film "V for Vendetta".
  • Gru's name is Felonious.
  • The film also features a reference to 'The Godfather' – when Gru wakes up in bed and finds a doll's head in it (in 'The Godfather', the character discovers a severed horse's head).
