The events depicted in the film took place during the Croat-Bosniak War in the autonomous region of Herzeg-Bosnia in 1993.
The African landing scene was borrowed from Wolfgang Petersen's (1941-2022) thriller "Outbreak" (1995), as the film's creators lacked the budget to film a similar scene.
Footage of the murder of peaceful Serbs in the final scene was used in the film "Behind Enemy Lines." The difference was that in the 2001 American action film, the killing was presented to the audience as Serbs killing Muslims.
