Short description
A freak hurricane hits Los Angeles, causing man-eating sharks to be scooped up in tornadoes and flooding the city with shark-infested seawater. Surfer and bar-owner Fin sets out with his friends Baz and Nova to rescue his estranged wife April and teenage daughter Claudia.

What's left behind the scenes

  • For filming Tara Reid's character's house, they used a regular house and, in some scenes, a mansion. As for the interior design, the sets were assembled inside a pool that could be flooded.
  • Steve Guttenberg was offered the role of Fin Shepard, but he turned it down, a decision he later bitterly regretted when the film became immensely popular. Guttenberg even agreed to star in the television disaster movie "Lavalantula" (Mike Mendez, 2015) about fire-breathing tarantulas besieging Los Angeles.
  • Ian Ziering confessed in one interview that he didn't like the film's script, but agreed to act in it solely for financial reasons. He was preparing to become a father for the second time, and he needed to earn a certain amount of money to qualify for the insurance benefits provided to members of the Screen Actors Guild.
  • Almost the entire film was shot on sunny days. Bad weather had to be created using technical means and digital technologies.
  • Around the 39th minute, Finn says the words "Semper paratus," or "Always ready." This phrase also serves as the motto of the United States Coast Guard.
  • The beginning of the film was shot on a yacht at sea. After filming was completed, it turned out that some additional footage was needed, so they rented another, cheaper yacht. You can notice the difference in some shots – the first yacht was larger and had a mast.
  • The role of Captain Corlos Santiago was written specifically for Israel Saez de Miguel.
