What's left behind the scenes

  • By the end of filming, Bruce Willis was certain their film had no chance at the box office. He even made a bet with Matthew Perry that the film wouldn't be number one in its opening weekend. The film easily took the top spot, and Willis, according to the terms of the bet, had to appear for free in an episode of “Friends”. However, he was eventually paid for that appearance on the series.
  • Bruce Willis really wanted to star alongside Matthew Perry. However, Perry was enjoying a vacation within reach, and Willis, tired of constantly hearing his voicemail, once read him the following text: "I will cut off your legs, burn down your house, and watch you die." Later, this cannibalistic joke made it into the film.
  • For the filming, the creators selected a pair of houses that they considered ideal. They paid the owners $50,000 each on the condition that they disappear from sight for a whole month.
  • When Nick recognizes Tulip, several photos from newspapers appear in the frame. They show advertising posters for Bruce Willis's films *Die Hard 2* (1990) and *The Jackal* (1997).
  • In the original version of the script, the action took place in Florida, not Montreal.
  • The three girls running between Tulip and Nick as they stand at the flower stall are Bruce Willis's three daughters.
  • When Yanni and Frankie go to kill Tulip, footage from John Huston's "The Asphalt Jungle" (1948) can be seen on the TV in the background.
  • By the end of filming, Bruce Willis was convinced that the film had no chance of success at the box office. He even made a bet with Matthew Perry that the film wouldn't be number one in the charts during its opening weekend. The film easily reached number one, and Willis, according to the terms of the bet, had to appear for free in one episode of «Friends». However, he was eventually paid for his appearance on the show.
