What's left behind the scenes

  • The film was based on the comic book "The Secret Service" by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons.
  • Emma Watson and Bella Heathcote were considered for the lead female role.
  • The script did not call for Samuel L. Jackson's character to have a lisp, but during the first take, director Matthew Vaughn heard him lisping. After speaking with the actor, Vaughn learned that Jackson actually had a lisp before his acting career, but was ultimately able to overcome the speech impediment.
  • In the "Secret Service" comic book, the character Gazelle was male, not female as depicted in the film.
  • Actor Colin Firth performed 80% of his own stunts.
  • Colin Firth trained for six months to get into the necessary physical shape for his role.
  • Director Matthew Vaughn turned down directing "X-Men: Days of Future Past" (2014) to helm this project.
  • Director Matthew Vaughn wanted Merlin (Mark Strong) to have a Welsh accent, but it proved too difficult for him, and Strong eventually convinced the director to let him use a Scottish accent instead.
  • Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise, and Idris Elba were considered for the role of Richmond, but Samuel L. Jackson ultimately landed the part.
  • Over sixty actors auditioned for the role of Eggsy. The main contenders were Jack O'Connell, John Boyega, and Taron Egerton. Aaron Taylor-Johnson was also offered the role of Eggsy, but he declined. Ultimately, Matthew Vaughn favored Egerton.
  • There was a moment when Oscar Pistorius, a South African sprinter with both legs amputated below the knee, offered himself for the role of a character named Gazelle. At the same time, Pistorius' representatives were asked if he could convincingly play the role of a murderer. However, he eventually declined the role, deciding to focus on preparing for upcoming sporting events, and shortly thereafter, in February 2013, Pistorius shot and killed his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.
  • Matthew Vaughn advised Colin Firth to base his portrayal of Harry Hart more on David Niven than on Roger Moore.
  • The Kingsman shop seen in the film was modeled after the world-famous tailoring shop Huntsman. Production designer Paul Kirby and his team built the Kingsman shop in a studio pavilion in Leavesden (Hertfordshire, UK), and tailors from Huntsman lent them some props to make the shop look more realistic.
  • Sofia Boutella had to undergo intensive training to prepare for her role, including training in Thai boxing and Taekwondo.
  • During the end credits of the film, the song "Get Ready For It" by Take That plays.
  • To create the costumes for the secret service agents, artist Arianna Phillips collaborated with online clothing retailer Mrporter.com.
  • Filming at the Kingsman secret service headquarters took place at a Savile Row fashion house.
  • The trailer for the film features the song "Suffragette City" by David Bowie.
  • Eggsy Dean’s stepfather was played by Geoff Bell, known for his role as the leader of the Millwall hooligan firm in the film "Hooligans"; a scarf of precisely this football club hangs on Eggsy’s mirror in his room.
  • When Samuel L. Jackson's character speaks to the princess through the hole in her cage door, it can be noticed that his position changes between shots.
  • When Eggsy is at the police station, he says he wants to make a phone call. In the overall shot, there is no phone on the table, but after a cut, Eggsy picks up the phone that has unexpectedly appeared there.
  • In the scene where Arthur and Eggsy are drinking cognac, Arthur's glass sometimes empties and sometimes refills.
  • At the 61st minute, when the action takes place in a club, the protagonist's gold chain appears and disappears several times.
  • The film was based on the comic book 'The Secret Service' by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons.
  • Director Matthew Vaughn turned down directing 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' (2014) to head this project.
  • During the end credits of the film, the song 'Get Ready For It' by Take That plays.
  • The trailer for the film features David Bowie’s song – 'Suffragette City'.
  • One of the scenes featuring covers of the newspaper “The Sun” includes a cover with the headline “Brad Pitt ate my sandwich”.
  • When Galahad tells Eggsy about Kingsman, he states that “Kingsman has been dressing the world’s most influential people since 1849.” This is the year that the Huntsman tailoring shop was founded, and Kingsman is modeled after it.
  • Eggsy’s stepfather, Dean, was played by Geoff Bell, known for his role as the leader of a Millwall FC hooligan group in the film “ID”; a scarf of exactly this football club hangs on Eggsy’s mirror in his room.
