"I wanted the lead actor to truly immerse himself in depression," director Juno Mak said in an interview. "We consulted with several doctors and came up with a cunning plan. The film crew regularly disrupted Chin Siu-Ho's sleep, calling him and forcing him to talk for at least five minutes every two hours seven days a week for three months. He was also put on a strict diet: nothing but black coffee, boiled vegetables, and water. Three months – and voilà! Depression is evident."
