What's left behind the scenes

  • The main roles were played by several golden retrievers and Irish setters.
  • There are two scenes in the film where Fluke narrowly avoids being hit by a car. In reality, there were no dogs near moving vehicles, and these scenes were filmed in parts. When the script called for the dogs to run aimlessly through streets crowded with people and cars, a trainer was actually nearby, just off-camera, constantly giving the animals commands. All scenes were carefully planned and rehearsed, and traffic was either stopped or, if cars continued to move, the animals were held back by trainers and were kept at least 15 meters away from traffic. The scene where a car almost runs over a puppy was filmed in sections. The car stopped a meter from the puppy, and a trainer was present to immediately pick up the animal and reward it with a treat. In scenes where the dogs are running, animal doubles were consistently used to avoid tiring the dogs out.
