A vessel named "Lady Grace", a practically exact replica of the "Andrea Gail", was used for filming. After filming was completed, "Lady Grace" was purchased by one of the Boston restaurants, Legal Sea Foods, and the ship now stands at a dock in Gloucester, becoming a floating memorial to fishermen who lost their lives at sea.
Although the "Crow's Nest" bar does exist in Gloucester, it is not actually located in a dock, as shown in the film.
Filming took place on the edge of Hurricane Floyd for three days in order to capture footage of the storm's early stages.
The role of Bobby Shaftoe was originally intended for Nicolas Cage, but the actor was forced to decline participation due to commitments to other projects.
“Andrea Gali” was built by Eastern Marina Inc. in Panama City, Florida, in 1978. The original name of the 22-meter vessel was “Miss Penny.”
Billy Tyne's and Dale Murphy’s relatives were very unhappy with the film, accusing the studio of using their names without permission and altering many facts to be inaccurate. The legal proceedings lasted five years, but the lawsuit was ultimately dismissed.
The film that the “Andrea Gali” crew watches immediately before the confrontation between Bobby and Billy is Clint Eastwood’s western “Pale Rider” (1985).
Filming took place from July 26 to December 23, 1999.
Although the "Crow's Nest" bar does exist in Gloucester, it is not actually located in the docks as depicted in the film.
