Kevin Bacon, who played the main character, specifically got to know several bicycle messengers.
During filming in San Francisco, the crew was allowed to work in the Pacific Stock Exchange building, on a new floor that had just been equipped with the most modern electronic equipment, on the condition that it would be only a few people, and that they would shoot with portable cameras.
Track cyclist Nelson Vails, who competed for the US Olympic cycling team in the mid-1980s, served as a consultant on the film. He helped train the actors and repeatedly provided advice on the life and work of bicycle messengers.
During filming, cameras were often mounted on bicycles.
Before filming, Kevin Bacon trained for 4 months riding a track bike with no gears or brakes. He rode around New York City with director and screenwriter Thomas Michael Donnelly, who also worked as a bicycle messenger while writing the screenplay.
