What's left behind the scenes

  • Kevin Bacon, who played the main character, specifically got to know several bicycle messengers.
  • During filming in San Francisco, the crew was allowed to work in the Pacific Stock Exchange building, on a new floor that had just been equipped with the most modern electronic equipment, on the condition that it would be only a few people, and that they would shoot with portable cameras.
  • Track cyclist Nelson Vails, who competed for the US Olympic cycling team in the mid-1980s, served as a consultant on the film. He helped train the actors and repeatedly provided advice on the life and work of bicycle messengers.
  • During filming, cameras were often mounted on bicycles.
  • Before filming, Kevin Bacon trained for 4 months riding a track bike with no gears or brakes. He rode around New York City with director and screenwriter Thomas Michael Donnelly, who also worked as a bicycle messenger while writing the screenplay.
