What's left behind the scenes

  • Some of the film's characters were created based on real aviation and automotive prototypes: The character of Dusty Crophopper incorporates elements of agricultural aircraft produced by the American company Air Tractor, model 502, as well as Cessna and Air Dromader aircraft; The designers of Windlifter drew inspiration from the blueprints of the S-64 Skycrane heavy-lift helicopter (produced by Sikorsky Aircraft), the Ka-26 multi-purpose helicopter (JSC “Kamov”, Lyubertsy), and the Mi-10 military transport helicopter (“Rostvertol”, Rostov); The fire truck Zero-One, a permanent resident of Propwash Junction, was modeled after the 1943 Fordson Tender; The Express was modeled after the American military transport Fairchild C-119 Flying Boxcar, also known as the “Flying Boxcar”; The 1968 Ford Bronco inspired the animators working on the image of the Minister of Natural Resources.
  • The two main characters in the film are helicopters, so the filmmakers turned to legendary pilot Chuck Aaron, who is a master of flying this type of vehicle, for help. He helped to depict the helicopters with maximum realism. In some scenes, Ranger Vinny performs complex maneuvers that were reviewed and approved by Aaron.
  • The two characters in love, Harvey and Vinny, were voiced by Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, who are married in real life.
  • Eric Estrada paid tribute to the television series “CHiPs” (1977-1983), in which he played patrolman Frank Poncherello. He voiced the role of police helicopter Nick “Blade” Lopez. According to the film's script, his character appeared in the television series “CHoPs”.
  • When creating the locations for the film, the animators drew inspiration from the beauty of US national parks, including Yosemite and Yellowstone: The Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone National Park served as a prototype for the resort base; The Director of National Parks, Jonathan Jarvis, was invited to Disneytoon to view the film. He was impressed by the attention to detail, even noticing the rocking chairs by the fireplace at the base; The train station adjacent to the resort base was copied from a real building near the north entrance to Yellowstone Park. The structure was designed by Robert Reamer, the architect of the Old Faithful Inn.
  • To pay tribute to their new friends from the CalFire team at the Hemet-Ryan rescue airbase, where the animators collected data for the film, Vinny’s fuselage is decorated with the number 301. This is the same number painted on the tail of real CalFire firefighting helicopters.
  • The animators wanted to leave no doubt in the audience's minds that the national park director, Cade Spinner, was playing dirty, so they always placed a trash can next to the SUV whenever the character appeared in the frame.
