What's left behind the scenes
- The film's original title was "Marauder".
- The film is partially based on the movie "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" (1948).
- John Zorn initially wrote all the music for the film. However, Walter Hill was not satisfied with his work and brought in Ry Cooder to rewrite the score.
- In the original script version, the character "Lucky" was named Lucy and was King James's friend. Also, Vince and Don were not from Fort Smith, Arkansas, but from Ashland, Kentucky.
