What's left behind the scenes

  • Jennifer Jason Leigh was long considered for the role of Brenda. When work on the film began, the actress was busy with another project, and Jill Hennessy took on the role of Brenda.
  • The role of Mickey was written for Alec Baldwin.
  • The film is set in the 1970s. While depicting Han Solo from 'Star Wars' in his room, Scott says: 'Well, what kind of friend are you, Lando!' The fact is, Lando Calrissian only appeared in the 'Star Wars' franchise in 'Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back' (Irvin Kershner), which was released in 1980.
  • Initially, in all screen tests filmed by the Martini brothers, the role of Scott was played by Kieran Culkin. However, by the time filming began, he had grown too old, and the role went to his younger brother, Rory Culkin.
  • The film depicts the Iran hostage crisis and the Falklands War as occurring in the same year, although these events were separated by two years.
  • The film features a shot of a Lego Discovery space shuttle model. The Discovery was launched only in 1984, and Lego did not release its first space shuttle model until 1990.
