What's left behind the scenes

  • Scenes featuring Marion Cotillard were filmed in seven-minute takes. The maximum number of takes required to film a single scene was 82.
  • Marion Cotillard agreed to star in the film even before reading the script.
  • Marion Cotillard first met director Jean-Pierre Dardenne in 2011 on the set of 'Rust and Bone' (2012). Dardenne was a producer on that film. Their meeting was accidental, as Cotillard was leaving the elevator with her child. It was then that Dardenne offered her to work together.
  • The film's scenes were shot in chronological order.
  • Filming took place in Serain, Belgium. This is an industrial town in the French-speaking region of Belgium where Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne were born and raised.
  • In an interview, the Dardenne brothers said they drew inspiration from '12 Angry Men' (1957) when preparing to film 'Two Days, One Night'. When asked about similarities to 'High Noon' (1952), they replied that Marion Cotillard's character might be similar to Grace Kelly in that film, but they hadn't even thought about it while writing the script.
