Short description
This South African movie tracks the rise of a once-petty criminal to the heights of the criminal underworld. After cutting his teeth on hijacking, before moving onto bigger game, an ambitious man hits a setback when most of his gang are shot.
What's left behind the scenes
- The film features a wide variety of languages and sometimes their mixtures. The main characters almost constantly speak a mixed so-called "gangster language," which includes words from Zulu, Sotho, Afrikaans, English, other languages, and invented slang. It is mainly associated with urban youth.
- The film's budget was very small, so they had to use cameras of older models.
- Looking at the Hillbrow district in Johannesburg from the outside, you can see that it stands on a hill, like a New Jerusalem. Hence the film's title.
