Short description
Olivier Assayas, Gus Van Sant, Wes Craven and Alfonso Cuaron are among the 20 distinguished directors who contribute to this collection of 18 stories, each exploring a different aspect of Parisian life. The colourful characters in this drama include a pair of mimes, a husband trying to chose between his wife and his lover, and a married man who turns to a prostitute for advice.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Episode "District X: Saint-Denis Suburbs" was filmed by Tom Tykwer in 2002. The short film "Truth" ("True") was first shown in 2004 as a supplement to Achim von Borris's film "What Do We Know About Love?" The credits featured an inconspicuous inscription "To F." hinting at a relationship with Franka Potente that ended in 2002. This episode was also used to attract other directors to work on the film. The Coen brothers agreed to participate in the filming after watching it.
  • The Coen brothers knew they would have only 2 days to film their segment, so they decided to shoot it in the subway in case it rained.
  • Alfonso Cuarón filmed "District XVII: Parc des Monsceau" in one continuous shot.
  • Originally, it was planned to film segments about all 20 districts of Paris, but this idea was later abandoned, and footage already shot by Christopher Boe and Rafael Najari was not included in the project.
