What's left behind the scenes

  • The film's title is listed in reference materials as “TRA(SGRE)DIRE,” but appears as “TRAsgreDIRE” within the film itself. The verb “trasgredire” translates from Italian as “to transgress, to violate,” while the verb “tradire” (the same word, but without the letters “sgre” in the middle) means “to betray, to deceive.”
  • Director Tinto Brass first encountered Yulia Mayarchuk (who played the lead role) at a pizzeria where she worked as a waitress, and invited her to audition for his film “Sweet Dreams” (1999). According to Mayarchuk, many aspiring actresses came to the audition on the appointed day, including several prostitutes. In the end, Brass chose Mayarchuk and also offered her a role in the adult comedy-drama “Breaking the Bans” (2000).
