Short description
Ninja Assassin follows Raizo, one of the deadliest assassins in the world. Taken from the streets as a child, he was transformed into a trained killer by the Ozunu Clan, a secret society whose very existence is considered a myth. But haunted by the merciless execution of his friend by the Clan, Raizo breaks free from them and vanishes. Now he waits, preparing to exact his revenge.
What's left behind the scenes
- The film's producers, the Wachowskis, were very dissatisfied with the original script and brought in J. Michael Straczynski to revise it six weeks before production began. The screenwriter, called in at the last minute, spent 53 hours on the entire process.
- The German Federal Film Fund provided approximately $9 million for the film's production, which was its largest subsidy in 2008. Another $1 million was received from a regional organization in the German state of Brandenburg.
- Colin Chow was supposed to play one of the roles in the film, but after considering the offer, he declined, stating that the proposed character did not suit him.
- Rain gained an additional 10 kg of muscle for the role, following a strict diet.
- On May 6, 2022, the Oktyabrsky District Court of St. Petersburg banned the film in Russia due to scenes of violence.
