The film was shot in Toronto.
Filming lasted for two and a half months: from March 31st to June 13th, 2006.
The name of the owner of the magical shop, Mr. Magorium, originates from director Zach Helm's cousin, who was named Allen Magory. The phrase “Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium,” which became the film's title, was used in their childhood conversations long before the script was written.
The official premiere of the film was attended by Natalie Portman and Dustin Hoffman, and tickets were made available to the general public. All proceeds from it were donated to various British charities.
A novelization written by American author Suzanne Wayne was released shortly before the film's theatrical release.
Copies of the film were delivered to cinemas under the false title “Magic Shop”.
Mr. Magorium’s unusual hairstyle, bushy eyebrows, and slight lisp were the idea of Dustin Hoffman himself, which delighted the director and producers.
