Censors began to object to the scene with Cary Grant (1904-1986) and Ingrid Bergman (1915-1982) in bed, and director Stanley Donen filmed the actors separately, splitting the screen and leaving a clearly visible 'border' between them.
When director Stanley Donen (1924-2019) offered Cary Grant (1904-1986) a role in the film, he replied that he would only play if Ingrid Bergman (1915-1982) became his co-star. Bergman was at that time busy filming Mark Robson's (1913-1978) war drama 'The Inn of the Sixth Happiness' (1958) in the UK and performing on the Parisian stage, so it was decided to film this melodramatic comedy at Elstree Studios in London.
Cary Grant was taught to play snooker by Sydney Lee (1911-1988), one of the best British snooker players of the time. Grant was also taught to play the violin left-handed, and Ingrid Bergman was taught to dance the Highland Fling (one of the four oldest traditional Scottish dances).
