- Armin Mueller-Stahl, who played the role of Professor Doctor Kirschbaum, appeared in Frank Bayer's 1974 film "Jacob the Liar", albeit as a different character.
- This is the second screen adaptation of the debut novel "Jacob the Liar" (1969) by German writer and screenwriter Jurek Becker (1937-1997). Becker received the Heinrich Mann Prize for it in 1971.
