Short description
Double-crossed and left without water in the desert, Cable Hogue is saved when he finds a spring. It is in just the right spot for a much needed rest stop on the local stagecoach line, and Hogue uses this to his advantage. He builds a house and makes money off the stagecoach passengers. Hildy, a prostitute from the nearest town, moves in with him. Hogue has everything going his way until the advent of the automobile ends the era of the stagecoach.
What's left behind the scenes
- Filming was complicated by bad weather and Sam Peckinpah's renewed alcoholism, who dismissively fired 36 members of the crew.
- Outdoor scenes were filmed in the Nevada desert.
- When the weather became impossible for filming, the entire crew went to a local bar, where they collectively left $70,000. The filming period was exceeded by 19 days and the budget by $3 million, leading to Warner Bros. severing ties with Sam Peckinpah.
