What's left behind the scenes
- Originally, Jason Lee's character (who played Dave) was intended to have more screen time, but the script had to be rewritten due to the actor's commitment to filming the series "My Name Is Earl" (2005-2009). A significant portion of the scenes with Lee's character were rewritten to include Toby, played by Zachary Levi.
- The house number in the film is 1958. This is the year screenwriter Ross Bagdasarian created the animated, anthropomorphic chipmunks.
