The film's original title, "Reign over me," is taken from the title of The Who's song "Love, reign over me" (from the album "Quadrophenia").
The video game that Charlie plays is "Shadow of the Colossus," released in October 2005 for the PlayStation-2 platform.
The role of the main character was written for Tom Cruise by Mike Binder, but he declined to participate in the project.
At one point, Javier Bardem was considered for the role of Alan, which was eventually played by Don Cheadle, but he was busy with other projects at the time, and the role went to Cheadle. However, Bardem deserves credit for Adam Sandler being in the film. He recommended Sandler to writer and director Mike Binder after seeing the actor in the romantic comedy 'Punch-Drunk Love'.
Initially, Adam Sandler turned down the offer to star in the film, although he really liked the character. About a month later, he reread the script and agreed to participate in the filming.
