Short description

An actor who is considering the role of a supermarket manager arrives at a grocery store on the outskirts of Los Angeles to do some field research. He subsequently becomes stranded, without a car or cell phone, and accepts a ride home with Scarlet, a cashier who is about to interview for a new job. The actor rediscovers the essence of his craft while helping Scarlet gain the confidence she needs to change her life.

According to the documentary about the making of 'Ten Steps to Success', Spanish actress Paz Vega (whose real name is Paz Campos Trigo) didn’t pretend to speak poor English. Her English was so bad that in some cases Vega simply memorized her lines without fully understanding their meaning.
The film’s director and producer, Brad Silberling, allowed his lead actors to freely improvise on set, so many scenes were made up on the spot—for example, Morgan Freeman’s dance at the car wash or the scene where Freeman and Vega’s characters sing in the car.
